dress for the day: packing with purpose

welcome to wednesday, where we say it like we mean it:

dress for the day you want to have,
not the one that’s trying to have you.

today and every wednesday, i invite you to link arms, blogs, and instagrams in solidarity. here’s to setting the tone for the days we desire with the clothes we pull from the closet!

pack

i’ve got some thoughts about packing.

i’ve been traveling a lot lately, mostly for work, and i’ve gotten pretty adept at the three work shirts, 2 fun shirts, jeans, boots, toiletries suitcase. my carry on purse fits well under the seat of all major airlines, and i’ve accepted that i’m a happier traveler when i check a bag.

today, however, i was packing for a different kind of trip. a trip for me. one with multiple events each day, friends who love to take pictures, and most importantly – a spirit that embraces individuality. my whole motive for attending blissdom – besides the dance party on saturday night – is to better define who i am as a blogger, writer, creative-type person, and damned if it won’t help me do that to feel like myself when i walk out of the hotel room.

so i made a chart . . . of course.
and i laid out outfits . . . of course.
and i put them all on at once . . .

and as much as i believe that everyone would love me or not love me the same in leggings and a sweatshirt, or this wear-it-all ensemble, that is really just not the point.

the point of packing with purpose – packing with the way i want to feel each day in mind – is exactly the point of all this *dress for the day* nonsense. your clothes are just another opportunity to express yourself, to play around with your definition of what you can and can’t be, do, wear, or imagine.

my style is meant to say something about me to me, just like sharone told us last week.

so if you’re going to blissdom – i hope you’ll say hello. i’ll be wearing some but not all of what you see in these pictures. come tell me how what you’re wearing is telling you a good thing about yourself. how teal pants give you an extra spring in your step, or how you feel mysterious in black, or creative in stripes, or hot in those heels. i want to meet you, and definitely want to see your dance moves.

any packing with purpose tips to share?
what do you always throw in the suitcase – just in case?

  1. You know maybe that is why as a mother I feel the need and desire to get dressed for myself everyday. I don’t have many ways to be me and to express myself so simply each day but getting dressed… that is something I can have fun with and do for me. PS… I do love that you put everything on all at once! haha

  2. Ooooh, have fun fun fun at blissdom! I’m sad I can’t be there… maybe next year. :)

  3. have SO much fun at blissdom!!!!

  4. LOL You are too funny! I can’t believe you put on everything at once. I hope you have fun at Blissdom {wish I were going, I would love to meet some of my favorite bloggers}. Have fun and dance like no one is watching.

  6. You are helping me figure out what to pack for Blissdom… so excited to finally be going! I’m fixing my hair today… and I’m bringing dry shampoo. ;0

  7. You. Are. Adorable. I did the same thing with packing – picked the outits that make me feel the most like me, the most comfortable in my skin. (plus a sparkle skirt for the race because duh.)

I’m at the airport now…see you in 6 hours!!! :D

  8. You’re so cool. You could wear that with confidence and no one would bat an eye. Have fun in the big D.

  9. Gah. This makes me miss you so much! Wish I was headed to B’dom just to hang with you and our crew.

As to packing, my go-to is lots of layering options and a few fun accessories. From there, I always pack a cardigan and an extra shirt and pair of underwear. Just in case.

  10. i always pack a pair of flats…never know when you will need to come out of those heels! enjoy the conference;)
