welcome to wednesday, where we say it, don’t spray it:
dress for the day you want to have,
not the one that’s trying to have you.
today and every wednesday, i invite you to link arms, blogs, and instagrams in solidarity. here’s to setting the tone for the days we desire with the clothes we pull from the closet!
***
there comes a time in every blogger’s life, when she must put aside the self-timer app on her camera, close the thesaurus of words waiting to be transformed into punny titles, and reflect on the good things around her.
in the spirit of the month of love, i’m turning the spotlight on the people around me (near and far) who radiate the good, the lovely, and the inspiring. like my sister – emily rose.
i love a lot of things about emily, many of them embodied by the way she’s come into her own style in the last few years.
i’ll be a good big sister and not show you the pictures of us at 12 and 14, or 14 and 16, or even 16 and 18. unlike the other sister, we both wandered in the style wilderness for a good bit, as children and childlike teenagers tend to do.
but i think it’s fair to say we’ve found our way to a little oasis called “clothes are fun! let’s add lipstick!”
emily’s been a loyal part of the #dressfortheday crowd on instagram from the beginning. take a peek at how she tackles wednesdays in the world of non-profit office work:
emily knows how to balance a look. she accentuates her killer curves with bold pieces and interesting shapes, like a silk summer dress with a chunky knit sweater, or jumbo cowls atop sleek black skinnies. she fell hard for the tomboy style, but always keeps one foot in the feminine with jewelry, makeup, or a sassy shoe. she has a great eye for vintage that will really work for her, and most commendably, she always answers my frantic dressing room texts for input.
what inspires me most about emily’s style is her confidence. she dresses boldly for the days she wants, no matter what they look like in the here and now. she takes risks with a smile you can hear in her voice, when you call from target again to ask if she got your text message 5 seconds ago . . .
i’m tackling today with emily’s gumption.
what do you think of emily’s take on tomboy?
and whose style have you been crushing on?
send them a virtual valentweet today!
if you’re into buttons, feel free to grab this one, and link up a post or a photo that tells your story below. feel free to link up anytime during the week, and look for a new dress for the day story each wednesday. even if you don’t link up – join me throughout the week on twinstagram (twitter +instagram) by using this hashtag:

Love the ‘tomboy’ plaid!
Kelly, I may be wearing it again today…don’t judge me :) Buying over-sized flannel gives you lots of wear-it-this-way-or-that-way options!
I feel like your sister would be very at home in my closet.
I love Emily’s eye for detail! That chunky cowl and polka dot scarf are giving me life :)
Thanks, Jennae! I’m kind of a minimalist when it comes to accessories, so scarves are my go-to!! Texture is my love language!
I love the sweet summer dress with the chunky knit sweater. I think I need Emily to come by my house and show me how to pull it off, ’cause I always look weird. LOL
I wish I could, Daenel, we could have a lot of fun playing dress up! Maybe just try something new today :)
Oh your sister is adorable!! I’m loving her style!! and am now feeling inspired to tackle my day a little better and start by going and getting dressed. I can do this. I can take today head on… I just know it. Thank you for the inspiration!
Thanks, Dawnelle! Glad we should inspire a tackle-the-day spirit!!
love it. and her. oh, and you! :-) i look forward to linking up with you on this fun and fashionable adventure!
do it madison! we need your little voice of style and spunk in this conversation!
Yes yes yes!
OOH OOH OOH I love plaid. I also love the summer dress with the chunky sweater.
Your sister is so cute! Love her style! Love how she stays into the fem style with florals- looks comfy and stylish!
Thanks, Dani! The day I started mixing textures and patterns felt like a revelation…but it’s so easy!
I like the combination of tomboy with feminine accessories. If I were brave enough to rock that look, I’d like to think I’d be drawn to the same blend of masculine and feminine! :)
something about your ladylike biz fashion gives the same impression i think!
