the internet is fun! (and so is real life)
let’s celebrate what we see . . .
here are my favorite
of the weekies
picture of the week:
i spent my birthday scouring point reyes national seashore for the most beautiful views, and every time i found one i was sure was the big winner, we would round another corner, find another beach, see more happy california cows grazing from hills overlooking the pacific. a bed and breakfast on tomales bay was the perfect way to start another year. there was also artisan cheese involved.
i highly recommend it.
big winner of the week:
in honor of my birthday month (yes, i’m going to annoyingly keep celebrating), we had a little giveaway going this week from the nice folks at minted. i pulled a winner out of the random.org hat and . . . . the winner is . . .
congrats jen, and happy birthday to everyone!
recipe of the week:
cheesy black bean stuffed sweet potatoes from how sweet eats
i’m a sucker for anything stuffed in a sweet potato, but the surprising creaminess of fontina cheese just takes these to the next level. we couldn’t find any arugula this week (weird!) and i wasn’t up for poaching an egg, but still – so delicious. served with roasted brussels sprouts for a simple, satisfying dinner!
tunes of the week:
modern vampires of the city streaming on itunes
i don’t remember the last time i was this into listening to an album over and over and over again. i love this record from vampire weekend, and i don’t care who knows it. you can stream the whole thing on itunes as of this moment, so do it! and then . .
do this! of the week:
i hit a wall some days, around 2 o’clock. my sister emily suggested trying a little re-focusing break to re-energize me for the rest of the day at calm.com. i loved my 2 minutes at the beach on thursday almost as much as my 2 minutes in the rainforest today. simple guided relaxation exercises in 2, 10, or 20 minute sessions. would be great for helping wind down on a restless night, too.
i just downloaded the app as well, so i can be calm while on-the-go? if you see me in the corner of trader joes with my eyes close and my head phones on, you’ll know what’s up.
words of the week:
“the man who has many answers,” by mary oliver in a thousand mornings
The man who has many answers
is often found
in the theaters of information
where he offers, graciously,
his deep findings.
While the man who has only questions,
to comfort himself, makes music.
happy weekend, friends! i hope it’s beautiful wherever you are.
p.s.: i wrote more about the details of my marathon training over here!
