welcome to wednesday, where we say it like we mean it:
dress for the day you want to have, not the one that’s trying to have you.
today and every wednesday , i invite you to link arms, blogs, and instagrams in solidarity. here’s to setting the tone for the days we desire with the clothes we pull from the closet!
i’ve said it before: i’m not 100% comfortable getting my picture taken. it’s totally a THING leftover from years of braces and fake smiles and weirdness i don’t even think about until someone says “smile!”
so when my fayetteville friend and fabulous photographer brian hirschy invited me to a merry gifmas party at his studio, i instantly got a little bit sweaty.
professional photographer + real bright lights + trying to manufacture a real smile = nervous abby.
but i wanted to do it. i wanted to do the hard, silly thing. i knew i would be happy if i did. i wanted to have something new to show a little more dimension on my about page . and when amber said she was in, i couldn’t resist.
i also knew there was probably only a 1 in 568 chance that brian would tell me he just couldn’t take a decent picture of me. good photographers are just good. and man did i get more than a good photographer. i’m glad i took the gamble on 1 in 568.
but what would i wear??
i look a tip from lindsay’s link last week and embraced the layered look. she wore two button ups (i know! brilliant!), and i paired my favorite denim shirt with a thin, long-sleeved tee. i thought solid colors with a simple stripe would photograph well, added a belt and my favorite new necklace, and we were in gif-making business.
which, looking back, is actually kind of difficult business. especially if you’re squirmy like me. brian took a series of about 15-20 pictures for each gif. that meant i had to figure out how to hold my eyes at one-third of a blink for a full frame . . . twice! with some good coaching and a hair-dryer on cool-blast, we made it happen.
once i was comfortable in front of the camera, brian couldn’t get rid of me. amber agreed to document one of our favorite moves, and believe it or not, we look even spazzier in person.
i find i never regret stepping out of my shell to do something fun with people i love. creativity is contagious, isn’t it? i felt like ME in this simple look, and i think it was a big part of the successful result. merry gifmas to all!
and obviously: if you’re looking for a photographer to bring you out of your photoshoot shell or to spice up anything from christmas cards to family portraits, i highly recommend brian hirschy . he’s recently returned to northwest arkansas with his beautiful wife and baby boy, but he travels light!
if you’re into buttons, feel free to grab this one, and link up a post or a photo that tells your story below. feel free to link up anytime during the week, and look for a new dress for the day story each wednesday . even if you don’t link up – join me throughout the week on twinstagram (twitter +instagram) by using this hashtag:
